Important Tevis Trail Updates

Please share
The WSTF, Tevis Cup Ride Committee and Trails Committee want to keep you informed about the trail and trails in need of trail repair in order to keep riders and horses safe.

Most of the trail is in wonderful condition and open. You will find this years event to be challenging and beautiful with all of the scenic greenery, lots of water and views of both the north and south forks of the American River. The Soda Springs starting location will provide a wonderful wide and safe trail for many miles where you will then join the WST at Lyon Ridge.

There are portions of the traditional and the alternate trail which are multi-use trails. Please be aware and cautious while riding on the portions of multi-use trails as there are many other users especially on the weekends.

Also please note that the Western States Endurance 100 Mile Run is this Saturday June 24.

The only Trails currently closed for equestrian use due to trail repair needs are the following:

  • Last Chance to Devil's Thumb - this trail will open July 15 for public use. Although the Western States run will pass through this weekend, permanent repairs will occur in early July and no equestrian use is permitted prior to July 15.
  • Poverty Bar River Crossing - the American River currently is flowing too high to cross

While riding if you find any trail locations in need of repair or clearing please GPS mark the location on your phone, photograph and report the information to

Thank you,

WSTF Trail Committee
