The Chance to Make a Difference
Keep an eye out for an important holiday card from the Western States Trail Endowment Foundation. The card will kick off a fund raiser that will have a major impact on insuring the future of the ride, an opportunity that may not come again. If you believe in the magic of the Comanche Moon and identify as a member of the Tevis Family, you will want to read that letter and, hopefully, respond.
Thank you to all of the Trail Committee team members, volunteers and conservation groups who helped us have a trail for 2017! The WSTF contributed over 1300 hours of trail work to the trail to make this year’s ride possible. Volunteers and trail funding are what keeps us going. If you are able to contribute your time or help as a trail work volunteer then please email firstname.lastname@example.org to be placed on the WSTF trail volunteer roster. 2018 Trail work dates will be posted early in 2018. If you don't have time but would like to support our trails with a donation then please visit www.teviscup.org and click on the donate button.

Veterinary Report – Ultrasound Study Update
Michigan State University veterinary professors Hal Schott, DVM and Melissa Esser, DVM report that nearly a hundred horses were tested pre-ride and seventy-one post ride. They have over six hundred, thirty-second ultrasound clips from Tevis horses to analyze. Very preliminary findings showed better gut motility pre-ride than post-ride though stomach emptying into the duodenum appeared the same. We should have additional information on whether pre-ride motility is predictive of success or failure in the ride and whether speed over the course influenced motility as well. The research group was very pleased with the enthusiasm and participation of the riders and the support of the Tevis veterinarians. They were also very impressed with the organization and accomplishment of putting on such a large ride point-to-point over such remote terrain. Thank you to everyone who supported this effort.
