The Beginning!
Begin Here! Follow the Trail To The Trail
Step 1. Be Curious.
If you are wondering how a 100 mile ride through the mountains in one day is possible, then you are one step closer to Riding TEVIS. We have created this page to help you get there. Here is an honest and demystifying lesson in why you can do it:
2. Use Our Resources
Rider Resources, that is! A page dedicated to connecting prospective riders with locally sourced resources:
- Horses (for rent/wanted)
- Transportation/trailerpooling
- Lodging/boarding
- Mentor/coach/training partner hookup
- Crew
- Tack and supplies
3. Pre-Ride The Tevis Trail
Being familiar with the trail is a great confidence builder. We keep a detailed log of the access points and trail conditions on our Pre-riding the Tevis Trail page:
4. The Ed Ride: DO IT!
The Educational Ride is the master class for preparing for Tevis. With mentors, educational talks, two day rides and a night ride on the course. Take it from 20-time Tevis finisher, Lori Stewart, “The Ed Ride is money and time well spent! AND it is the most fun you can have while getting ready for Tevis.“
5. Register For Tevis
Once you meet the qualification standards and get some experience on the course, it’s time! Register for The Tevis Cup and get ready for one amazing day on the Western States Trail, from the Sierra Nevada peaks to the American River Canyon, to Auburn, CA.
