Snippets of news re. ride logistics. More detailed (and finalized) information will be available in the ride packet closer to Ride Day:
Robinson Flat:
Robinson Flat is going to be a little different this year. With Mosquito Ridge Road closed the road through Robinson Flat is the alternate access road to get into the area and we are not allowed to park along the road at all this year.
For this reason, crews will be parking at Sailor Flat (as is usual) and also at Ford’s Point, 4.5 miles before Sailor Flat. Shuttle buses will be provided for crew between those locations. We are not limiting the number of crew who can go in to Robinson Flat, but we ask that you travel without the kitchen sink – the shuttle buses only have a limited amount of space. There will be no driving up to the top to drop off or pick up items as in years past. Everyone must ride the shuttle. Pack accordingly and send carriers for your items so you can enter and exit the school buses as efficiently as possible.
There will be more info in the ride packet – which will be available before Ride Day – detailing the specifics of how this will work, but it will make for a bit more of a challenge (to an already challenging location – yes, we get it).
We will also be offering a crew bag service (place your crew bags [no carts] in the ride management-assigned trailer at Soda Springs), and your bag will be at Robinson Flat when you arrive.
On the plus side, the USFS has cleared more vegetation from the area used for this check, so we do have a bit more space to spread out there.
Pre-riding CA Loop:
Unfortunately the first few miles (private property) of the CA Loop leaving Foresthill is currently closed to the public, so please do not pre-ride that section. It is only open for ride day.
Lower Driver’s Flat:
Crews (vehicles only- no trailers) will be allowed at the Lower Driver’s Flat staging area to meeting riders climbing out from Francisco’s. Vehicles must be parked in staging area only and not along drivers flat road.
But don’t delay your rider – they are going to need all the time they can to get through the next few miles!
