Western States Trail Reconditioning Project
With the announcement of the WSTF Action Plan, many supporters of the Western States Trail have expressed interest in helping with trail repair and upkeep. We’ve been touched by offers of time and money. We can use the help and would love to have it.
We’re excited to share that in early August we had two great meetings and—along with our partner organization, the Western States Endurance Run—kicked off the WST Reconditioning Project with Auburn State Recreation Area and the US Forest Service.
So, let’s get it done!
If you’d like to volunteer
Please add your name to our list and we will reach out to you once we have more specifics about times and locations.
We expect to have trail work dates scheduled starting October 2022 and running through May 2023.
For the 2022/2023 effort, we’ll be focusing on the trail between Last Chance and Michigan Bluff (the first two canyons) and from Foresthill to Francisco’s (Cal Loop). Work will also be done in other locations. In future years we plan to expand efforts until we have comprehensively reconditioned the portions of the trail that need it.
The volunteer form will ask about your physical capabilities because working directly on the trail will be physically demanding. However we anticipate having all types of opportunities to help – including administrative tasks, support of trail crews with transportation and shuttling, or possibly just bringing in sandwiches. Let us know if you’re ready to join the team!
If you’d like to donate
It goes without saying that it will take a significant infusion of cash to recondition the parts of the 100 miles of historic trail that need it. WSTF will underwrite the majority of these costs, and we’ll need your help to do that.
If you would like to contribute, please click DONATE and fill out the form. Once you click on the SUBMIT button, you will be taken to a PayPal portal which will capture your payment information.
Donors who respond to this campaign will be listed on www.teviscup.org, and Four Horse Shoe donors will be featured on the website home page and at next year’s Tevis Cup ride.
Please join us in our efforts to recondition this trail we love. Thank you!
