Following the difficulties during this year’s ride, WSTF Board of Governors has been working to better understand the issues, identify areas of improvement, and develop actions designed to mitigate risk factors, as well as improve the completion rate of the Tevis Cup Ride.

Loss of Horses During the 2024 Ride
The Western States Trail Foundation must acknowledge the unfortunate loss of two horses during the 2024 Tevis Cup ride.

Tevis Route 2023
We are pleased to officially unveil this year’s modified “snow” route! Last winter brought a record amount of snowfall to the Sierras necessitating some trail reroutes to the 2023 Tevis Cup Ride.
Riders will follow a special and spectacular route which still involves many iconic locations.

Mosquito Fire Assessment – WSER

Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) on WST
Local resource YubaNet.com published this report regarding the Forest Service BAER team who are assessing federal lands burned in the Mosquito Fire, including those traversed by the WST.

The entire Trail has been logged and verified clear as of June 15 from start to finish.
Please note a wash-out approx. 1/4 mile prior to Kaput Springs on the trail from Deadwood and use extreme caution.

Checkpoint Card – 2022

Please note the change from last year – there is now a hard cut-off at Cal-2 of 11:45 pm – IN – after that time you will be overtime and pulled from the ride (previously this cut-off was purely a guideline to riders).
Late Entry Fee and Add/Change Equine
Don’t be late! Entries must be received on / before July 1st to avoid the $100 increase. Also, if you haven’t yet declared your mount for this year, this also needs to be done on / before July 1st if you want to avoid the $30 late fee. You may use the “Add/Change Equine” form. […]
